An Iowa native, Eleni Katz is a bassoonist who has always loved the art of performance. Eleni is a passionate chamber musician, orchestral player, and soloist and has appeared in concerts across the country.
In the past three years, she was a semi-finalist in the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition, winner in the Woolsey Hall Concerto Competition, UW-Madison Symphony Concerto Competition, finalist in Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Instrumental Competition, runner-up in the Marquette Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition, and winner of the Irving Shain Woodwind Collaborative Piano Competition. Eleni has participated in both the Norfolk, Lake George, IMANI Winds, and Madeline Island, Chamber Music Festivals.
In her journey as a chamber musician, Eleni has had the opportunity to work with several influential chamber music coaches including: Steven Taylor, William Purvis, David Shifrin, Frank Morelli, James Austin Smith, Andre Michel Schub, The Imani Winds, and Akropolis Reed Quintet, Melvin Chen, Allen Dean, Wei-Yi Yang, among several others. Eleni has also had the opportunity to play in numerous masterclasses for musicians who hold positions in major orchestras or have solo careers including: Bill Buchman, Kim Laskowski, Martin Kuuskman, Giorgio Versiglia, David Shifrin, Ricardo Morales, among others.
Eleni has participated in several orchestral festivals including the Brevard Music Center, and Chautauqua Institution, and played with the National Repertory Orchestra in 2018. This summer Eleni will be attending Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara and returning to Lake George Music Festival.
Currently, she is pursuing a master's degree at the Yale School of Music under Professor Frank Morelli. Eleni received her Bachelor's of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the mentorship of Professor Marc Vallon. Other influential mentors include Dr. Benjamin Coelho and Jeff Robinson. In Eleni's free time she enjoys practicing yoga, hiking, and cooking with friends.
